If you have a newborn, you'll need an infant car seat for their first journey home. This type of car seat is installed rear-facing in the car since this is the safest position to protect their head, neck, and spine. Our infant car seat, the Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna, is the ideal early-stage solution for your child. It's ultralight yet packed with safety features, including shock-absorbing Tailor tech™ memory foam in the headrest, plus EPP energy-absorbing foam. The Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna can also be part of a travel system, since it clicks onto your Bugaboo stroller for a seamless transition between car and stroller. Separate adapters are usually needed for this set-up. This car seat supports your baby until they're 30 lbs or 30 inches (whichever comes first) — this is usually when they’re around 15 months of age. At this point, you can switch to a forward-facing car seat.

The Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna comes with the Bugaboo Turtle Air recline base by Nuna, ensuring your car seat is always securely and properly installed. Before installing, always review the product user manual, check the vehicle fit guide, and your vehicle handbook for compatibility.

First, position the base in your car with the stability leg deployed. You can install the base using the rigid latch (lower anchors) or the lap belt.

To install the base using the rigid latch: Rotate the lower anchors down and point them away from base. Grasp the rigid latch anchors, then push down and forward to connect to the vehicle's lower anchor bars. Ensure that the base bottom is firmly in place on the seat and there is no gap between the base bottom and vehicle seat. The safety indicator will show green when it's properly connected.

To install the base using the lap/shoulder or lap belt: Lift the lock-off release button. Route the lap belt across the area labeled “Lap belt here.” Route the shoulder belt diagonally across the area labeled “Shoulder belt here.” Buckle the vehicle belt. Both the shoulder and lap belt must be under the vehicle belt lock-off and belts must lay flat. While pressing the base firmly downward onto the vehicle seat, tighten the vehicle belt, then push down on the lock-off to close it.

Once your base is anchored to the car, the click-and-go system lets you lift your car seat in and out with ease.

You can also choose to use the Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna without a base, by using a 3-point retractor safety belt.

The Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna is suitable from birth, provided your newborn weighs at least 4 lbs. It can be used until your child is maximum 30 lbs or 30 inches, whichever comes first. This is usually around 15 months old, depending on their development.

The Bugaboo Turtle Air Shield by Nuna features soft and machine-washable fabrics, making it easy to clean up after any mess. Wash the seat pad in cold water (maximum 86°F) on a delicate cycle, and hang dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry, iron, bleach, or dry clean.

The car seat shell, handle, and harness straps can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The buckles can be rinsed with warm water, but do not use any soaps, solvents, or lubricants. Be sure to thoroughly air dry.

Always consult the washing label for exact instructions. If you're not using the car seat for an extended period, remove and store it in a cool and dry place, away from the reach of children.
